For the 4th edition, we are inviting you at Smida Jazz, a Festival dedicated to the avant-garde jazz, that takes place in the picturesque village Smida (Beliş commune, Cluj County-in the middle of the Apuseni Nature Park). Over the course of 3 days, between August 15th and 17th, from Thursday to Sunday afternoon, we invite you to spend a mini-holiday in Apuseni, where you will be able to take part in all sorts of outdoor activities and enjoy the concerts of 9 avant-garde music groups (national and international). On site, we will offer camping, food court, parking and we will provide means of public transport for traveling to and from Smida.
The groups that are part of the #smidajazz2019 line-up are:
Nik Bärtsch's RONIN: incorporates elements of disparate musical worlds, be they funk, classical music or elements of Japanese ritual music, merged into a new, coherent style;James Holden & The Animal Spirits: an electronic producer, "The shaman of the synthesizer" + musicians focused on improvisation = a group combining astral, minimal jazz and rhythms of North African music, the combination described by Holden as "folk-trance";Mammal Hands: one of Europe's most thrilling groups, admired by the GoGo Penguin and Portico Quartet fans and represented by the famous Label Gondwana Records;Phronesis: "one of the most dynamic European jazz bands", according to The Guardian;Szun Waves: they will come for the first in Romania and will bring the sound from "New Hymn To Freedom", Named by Shabaka Hutchings (Sons of Kemet) The contemporary Jazz Album of the year 2018;LBT - Leo Betzl Trio: techno-jazz made entirely in an acoustic manner by piano, bass guitar and drums, without computers or synthesizers;Deus Ex Quartet: a group appreciated on the underground scene in Budapest combining contemporary jazz with the Hungarian folk, drum and bass and ambiental;Paolo Profeti European Collective: a cross-border project with a Romanian-Italian cross-border composition;Flatsharks: an emerging and surprising group, with well-known members on the Romanian jazz scene: Cristian Ciceu, Csergo Dominic and Theodor Constantiniu;
Smida Jazz Festival is an international open-air event dedicated to contemporary and avant-garde jazz, taking place in Smida, Apuseni Nature Park. The musical program is combined with a daytime activities schedule, in order to offer a complete experience to the participants, from music lovers to outdoor enthusiasts and families.The festival promotes modern jazz styles and artists already present in the programming of the most important jazz events all over the world. The music presented at Smida Jazzhas influences from many other genres (rock, electronic, funk), in this way attracting a wider range of audiences and a quite different one than the traditional jazz events have.
